Rudds Creek Park
Located along the shores of the John H. Kerr Reservoir, Rudds Creek Park is a beautiful camping destination that can be reached in a little over half an hour by car from downtown Oxford. The reservoir spans a territory of more than 50,000 acres and was created as a result of the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in the early 1950s. Open all year round, the park welcomes thousands of visitors from all over the region each year. The camping spots at Rudds Creek Park range between standard electric, standard nonelectric, and group shelter nonelectric. Featuring 98 different sites for tents or RVs, the main campground also provides campers a vast array of amenities, including hot showers, a dump station, and well-kept flush toilets. The camping area is not far from a picnic shelter and a swimming beach, and it also has its own boat ramp and a courtesy dock open exclusively for campers.
Falls Lake State Recreation Area
Established in 1981 and managed by the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, Falls Lake State Recreation area is a popular destination for a broad range of different outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, and camping. This recreation area spans more than 5,000 acres and engulfs the entirety of Falls Lake, considered one of the most important reservoirs for the region’s water supply system. The camping facilities at Falls Lake State Recreation Area range between primitive and fully equipped sites. All campsites have different amenities, so campers are encouraged to check out the various options before booking a spot. The best-equipped camping areas feature flush toilets, hot showers, electric hookups, picnic tables, outdoor grills, and dump stations. Getting to the entrance of the recreation area, as well as to most of the campsites, takes about half an hour by car, driving along route US-15.
North Bend Park & Campground
Located about 35 miles northeast of the Oxford downtown area, the North Bend Park & Campground features 249 campsites ranging between primitive and electric/water hookup spots. All camping areas feature picnic tables, a public grill, and a lantern hook for each tent pad. North Bend Park is a well-known destination for several outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, and picnicking. Getting here takes about 40 minutes by car, driving along route I-85 N.
