Have Yourself Some Fun in the Snow This Winter!

Do you want to build a snowman? If, like Elsa, you're a fan of the colder weather, there's all kinds of winter fun to enjoy. We've got some more unusual ideas about how to go wild in the white stuff. more Have Yourself Some Winter Fun in the Snow This Year! Experience Fat Biking A snowy landscape is a thing of beauty, so why not get out there and experience it first-hand? Fat biking is a cycling activity that's designed for the winter months, with extra-thick tires to add grip and balance. Compared to regular biking in the dirt, fat biking feels very different. But with a soft landing guaranteed, it's a snowy sport that the whole family can try out. Build a Bubble Forget about snowmen, when the temperature is below zero, it's all about building frozen bubbles. To make these icy pieces of art, put some warm water in a bowl and add corn syrup and dish soap. After giving everything a good mix, dip a straw into the bowl and gently blow out onto a frozen surface. Bubbles will form and freeze instantly, creating a very cool effect. If you really want to up the ante, you could try putting the solution into a battery-powered bubble maker! Go Skijoring No, we didn't accidentally fall on our keyboard while trying to spell "skiing"! Skijoring is a great winter activity that combines sledding and cross-country skiing. The name comes from the traditional Norwegian "skikjøring" which roughly translates as "ski driving". To take part, you'll need a set of skis and a willing dog or horse to pull you along. Using a quick-release harness and a lead, your chosen animal partner will run through the snow, pulling you along behind. You might need to travel to a skijor facility, with options in North Carolina including Blue Ridge Parkway and Elk Knob State Park. Try Ice Fishing Ice fishing sounds risky, but it's perfectly safe if you follow the guidelines. North Carolina has plenty of locations where you can go ice fishing, such as Big and Little Beaver Lakes. Look for clear, new ice that's at least 4 inches thick, and take advice from the local bait shop about safe spots to fish. Visit the Festival of Lights If the snow arrives between November and the start of January, why not take a road trip to visit the annual Festival of Lights? Held in Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC, the Festival of Lights features five miles of illumination plus a whole host of wintry activities. A truly magical experience in the snow, the Festival is fun for everyone, young and old.
